Electronic Cigarettes: How Much Cheaper Are They?

Sunday, June 19th, 2011

The fact that electronic cigarettes are cheaper compared to tobacco cigarettes is still very interesting to discuss, especially since there are still a lot of tobacco cigarette smokers who view electronic cigarettes as more expensive and less enjoyable. In order to see how much cheaper can electronic cigarettes be, we are going to try to calculate the amount of money that can be saved by switching to an electronic cigarette.

Thanks to the high tax and other charges, an affordable pack of tobacco cigarettes still costs around $6. Assuming you smoke one pack a day, you are actually spending a whopping $180 a month on cigarettes alone. We are going to use this amount as base for our calculation.

A good electronic cigarette starter it usually costs around $60. With the starter kit, you already get 6 refill cartridges to get you started right away. Assuming one refill cartridge is equal to one pack of cigarettes – normally, a refill cartridge is equal to 1.5 to 2 packs of cigarettes, but we are going to use 1:1 comparison to make this calculation much more acceptable – you already have enough cartridges for the first 6 days.

You need to get smokeless cig refill cartridges for the remaining 24 days of the month, so in other words you will have to purchase 24 extra refill cartridges. Each pack of 10 refill cartridges costs $18 ($1.8 per cartridge) so you are paying $43.20 for 24 refill cartridges.

The total amount of money spent on smoking an electronic cigarette is $103.20. This means you are saving $76.80 the first month alone. Since you don’t have to buy a new starter kit the following months, you basically spend no more than $54 a month on refill cartridges and saving $126 while enjoying the same – or even better – smoking sensations.
